At about €3.40 per terahash the A1246 is a learning machine and a surplus-power machine, not an efficiency machine: its 40.2 J/TH are well behind the Antminer S19j Pro (29.5 J/TH) and the Antminer S19k Pro (23 J/TH). Avalon A1246 85T in detail: the cheapest way to first hashrate
Canaan's Avalon 1246 belongs to the same generation as Bitmain's S19 and was built for farms: a robust steel chassis, integrated PSU and controller and a web interface that needs pool URL and wallet address and nothing else. The 85 TH/s come from 3420W, i.e. 40.2 J/TH – about a third more energy per terahash than an S19j Pro. That is why the A1246 is priced where it is: €289 for a like-new, boxed unit.
Our batch consists of units that never ran or ran only for a few weeks, all in original packaging. Legally they are sold as used goods with statutory warranty for consumers; stocked hardware is checked before dispatch. There is no volume discount on the A1246 – the price is the same for one unit and for ten – which keeps the decision simple: it is the right unit if your electricity is cheap enough, and the wrong one if it is not.

The A1246 costs €289 per unit, whether you buy one or ten. Per terahash that is about €3.40; a used S19j Pro at the 10-unit tier is about €2.88 per TH but needs far less electricity for each of them.

Avalon A1246 electricity cost per day and month
Electricity is the only running cost you can pin down before buying. The Avalon A1246 85T draws 3420W, i.e. about 82.1 kWh per day in continuous operation. The formula is simple: watts × 24 h ÷ 1,000 × your price per kWh. The table shows the result for three typical tariffs.

- First machine on a small budget: €289 buys you the full experience – power connection, pool, noise, heat – before you spend four figures.

How much electricity does the Avalon A1246 use?
3420W at full load, about 82.1 kWh per day – €8.21 at 10 ct/kWh, €16.42 at 20 ct/kWh and €24.62 at 30 ct/kWh. At 40.2 J/TH it uses more energy per terahash than any Antminer we sell, so it only makes sense with very cheap or surplus power.
Avalon A1246 or Antminer S19j Pro?
The S19j Pro (104 TH/s, 29.5 J/TH) costs from €299 per unit from ten and €329 as a single unit; the A1246 (85 TH/s, 40.2 J/TH) is €289 regardless of quantity. For one unit the A1246 is the cheapest start; per terahash and per kWh the S19j Pro is the better machine, and the S19k Pro (23 J/TH) better still.
Is the Avalon A1246 worth it in 2026?
Only with electricity far below household rates – solar surplus, night tariff, commercial – or as a learning unit. On household electricity at 25–30 ct/kWh it does not pay off in continuous operation, and we say so plainly. How loud is the Avalon A1246?
It is an air-cooled miner and about as loud as an Antminer of the same class – roughly 75 dB according to the manufacturer. It belongs in a basement, garage, workshop or outbuilding, not in a living space.
What do I need to run the A1246?
A dedicated, correctly fused circuit for 3420W, a ventilated location, a LAN connection, a pool account and a Bitcoin wallet. PSU and controller are integrated, so it is power cable, network cable, pool URL and wallet address – on request we configure the unit before shipping.
