Avalon Q in detail: mining and heating in one unit
Canaan designed the Avalon Q as a home miner from the ground up rather than a farm unit with a quieter fan. The chassis measures 305 × 125 × 145mm and weighs 10,1 kg (net) / 12,5 kg (gross); it runs on 110–240 V from a normal socket, connects via USB and RJ45, and is configured through the Avalon Family app by scanning a QR code. Firmware updates and diagnostics arrive through the same app. Inside sits current-generation silicon: 90 TH/s at 18.6 J/TH is the class of an Antminer S21, at 1674W instead of 2,650 W.
The point of the lower power draw is not efficiency alone but usability: 1.67 kW of heat warms a room instead of overheating it, ≤45 dB(A) is the level of a quiet fridge, and a standard socket is enough. Operating range is 5–45°C at 5–95% (nicht kondensierend). It is a direct air heater – it does not feed a water-based central heating loop; for that you would need a hydro miner with heat exchanger, which is a plumbing project rather than a plug-and-play device.

Avalon Q electricity cost per day and month

A miner converts practically all of its electrical input into heat, so the Avalon Q delivers about 1.67 kW of heat – the class of a mid-sized fan heater. Practically all of its 1674W of electrical input becomes heat – about the output of a mid-sized fan heater. It is a direct air heater: it warms the room it stands in and does not connect to a water-based central heating system.
How much electricity does the Avalon Q use?
1674W at full load, about 40.2 kWh per day – €4.02 at 10 ct/kWh, €8.04 at 20 ct/kWh and €12.05 at 30 ct/kWh. A fan heater of the same wattage costs exactly the same to run; the difference is that the Avalon Q also mines Bitcoin while heating. Can I run the Avalon Q on a normal socket?
Yes. The Avalon Q runs on 110–240 V from a standard household socket on an adequately fused circuit; 1674W is within the range of a large kettle or fan heater. Do not share the circuit with other high-load appliances and keep the air intake clear.
How is the Avalon Q set up?
Place it, plug in power and the network cable (RJ45), open the Avalon Family app, scan the QR code on the unit and enter your pool and wallet. Setup usually takes a few minutes; on request we configure pool and wallet before shipping so the unit mines straight out of the box.
What happens in summer?
Outside the heating season you have two options: switch the unit off or move it to a room that can take the heat (cellar, garage, workshop). Many customers run it as a heater from autumn to spring and pause it in summer.
