Bitcoin Mining in Germany 2026 – Is It Worth It?

The electricity price is the whole story

In Germany mining rarely fails because of hardware — it fails on the tariff. At 30 ct/kWh a 3 kW miner costs around 540 € per month, which has to be earned back first. So three setups are realistic here: surplus solar, heat reuse, or a commercial/hosting rate.

Anyone meeting none of those three should treat mining as a hobby, not an investment. We say that before the purchase on purpose.

What works well in Germany

• Surplus solar instead of exporting for a few cents per kWh
• Heat reuse in a workshop, hall, outbuilding or for hot water
• Commercial electricity with a low energy rate
• Hosting in a farm with an industrial kWh price
• Quiet Bitcoin heaters indoors instead of loud large miners

German electricity prices in 2026 and break-even per miner

Basic supply is typically 29-35 ct/kWh, cheap household contracts 25-28 ct, commercial electricity 18-25 ct, own PV power 8-12 ct generation cost, and hosting from 4.5 ct/kWh. The break-even electricity price is where daily revenue equals the power bill.

Calculated at roughly 0.037 EUR per TH/s per day: Antminer S19j Pro (104 TH/s, 3,068 W) earns about 3.85 EUR against 74 kWh, break-even 5.2 ct/kWh. S19k Pro (117 TH/s, 2,700 W) about 4.35 EUR against 65 kWh, break-even 6.7 ct/kWh. S21 (151 TH/s, 2,650 W) about 5.59 EUR against 64 kWh, break-even 8.8 ct/kWh.

A 3 kW miner draws around 2,100 kWh per month: about 630 EUR at 30 ct, 420 EUR at 20 ct commercial rate, about 95 EUR at 4.5 ct in hosting. Above break-even the miner still pays off as a heater, because that power would have gone into heat anyway.

Registrations step by step

• Check the circuit: a dedicated, correctly fused circuit per 3 kW miner; from two units usually 400 V and a qualified electrician
• Register the trade at the local Gewerbeamt, usually 20-60 EUR, once you mine continuously
• File the tax registration questionnaire via ELSTER and decide on the small-business rule or regular VAT with input tax deduction
• Set up the pool account and your own wallet address before the miner arrives
• Document from day one: payouts with date and euro value, meter readings, invoice for depreciation

Legal and practical points

Mining is legal in Germany. The main things to handle are the electrical installation (a dedicated, correctly fused circuit — use a qualified electrician if unsure), noise towards neighbours, and the tax treatment of revenue. Payment, invoice and warranty

You can pay by bank transfer, credit card, PayPal, Apple Pay or cryptocurrency. Every order comes with a proper invoice showing VAT. EU business customers with a valid VAT ID are invoiced at 0 % under the reverse-charge scheme, and we can switch your session to B2B mode with net prices.

New and used miners are covered by statutory warranty under EU law. Used units are tested, cleaned and shipped with a logged hashrate; the exact scope is stated on each product page.
